This old-fashioned favorite is considered to be a climbing nasturtium and has a vining habit. It can grow between 60-80 inches. Start Vesuvius seeds in spring for blooms that last all summer through fall and until the first frost. The Vesuvius flower is light red, and both the rounded leaves and spurred flowers are edible. These climbing vines are annuals native to South America. They are a versatile flower for the garden either climbing a post or cascading from a window box or hanging basket. Nasturtiums are used as companion plants for the vegetable garden. It is said that the peppery-flavored leaves ward off many insects.

AAS’ expert judges praised the uniformly compact plants that sported flowers with consistent coloration. Their compact habit means less "flower flopping" with their blooms remaining upright throughout the season. Considered to be a trailing plant, this variety reaches about 60 inches. It can grow in baskets where it trails out over the sides, or give it a structure to climb. Grown from seeds, it establishes quickly and easily. Trailing nasturtium double gleam has a striking effect with the soft salmon, semi-double flowers and lush gray-green foliage. Very attractive with blooms lasting from mid summer to mid fall or until first frost. Nasturtium care includes regular irrigation but drying out inbetween and no fertilization is required.
The vines do best when it is left alone. It will tolerate most any soil type, but prefers not to be fertilized. Over-fertilization will produce lovely foliage, but no flowers. LET338 Moonlight Climbing
This annual is a very useful flowering plant very familiar to most gardeners. This climbing plant is one of the best plants for covering fences or walls when given some strings or brush to climb on. The plant creates a very pleasing effect when the flower seeds are sown here and there amongst shrubs. As the nasturtium vine grows it attaches to the bushes, climbing over or through them, and the lovely flowers spill out making a charming display. Bloom time is mid-summer through first frost. Tropaeolum Lobbianum grow just as well as Tropaeloum Majus, however the foliage is somewhat smaller, but they flower in great profusion.

Before sowing seeds, soak the seeds overnight in warm water. The next day, plant the flower seeds 1/2 inch deep in an area that gets at least 6 hours of direct sun each day.
