Portuguese Kale (Couve tronchuda) is the sweetest and most tender of the kale varieties we offer. The leaves look like large collard leaves but with many white veins. They are delicious finely sliced and briefly cooked. Raw foodies also love this variety because of its tenderness.
This kale is a bit more heat tolerant than other kales and so offers a slightly longer growing season. An ethnic and culinary favorite, it is similar to collards in appearance. Its sweet flavor and tender texture lie somewhere in between cabbage and standard kale.
Its bluish-green fleshy, rounded leaves have white ribs. The leaves are traditionally used in soup or steamed. The white stems work well in stir fries or can be braised. Approximately 70-80 days to maturity.

This heirloom variety is also called Dinosaur kale. Very popular variety that is extremely cold hardy. The leaves are long and narrow with a beautiful blue-green color. They are heavily crinkled and cook up tender and sweet. One of the best flavored kales. 35-62 days.

30-60 Days. Deep green, almost black color and exceptionally sweet, rich flavor set this outstanding Lacinato type apart from others. The narrow, strappy leaves are deeply puckered for a gorgeous appearance. The upright plants are easy to harvest and offer improved bolt tolerance over traditional Lacinato strains. Black Magic's dark color is striking when displayed in mature bunches, and it also adds an unexpected element to baby mesclun blends.
