Easy to grow from seeds, the Indian Blanket wildflower was approved as Oklahoma's official state wildflower in 1986. It is a beauty that should be in every wildflower garden with its large, showy flowers that reach 2-3 inches in diameter and begin to bloom in May and usually continue until September.
ndian Blanket usually appears in late spring and signal the beginning of summer in many parts of the country. With their showy bands of red and yellow blazing across wide expanses of land, they do indeed resemble colorful Indian blankets.
If you want to keep the wildflower blooming longer and looking nicer, deadheading is important. Let a few of the flowers go to seed to encourage seed distribution in late fall. The fallen wild flower seed will sprout and bloom the following spring.

Sundance is a short-lived annual that is native to the central United States. It establishes nicely from Gaillardia seeds, and it is a show-stopper for the xeriscape garden, giving lots of blooms that attract butterflies and beneficial insects. It is a great flower to have where water conservation is desired.
Fully double powder-puff blooms light up the landscape with large creamy-white flowers. This dependable performer blooms throughout summer tolerating heat, humidity, drought and poor soil. Growing around 10 inches tall, Gaillardia Sundance Cream contrasts well with reds and purples and creates a lively, colorful statement in the garden. It is a hardy plant, not picky about soil, though sandy and well-drained are best. It has a high drought tolerance and does best with a dry, hot climate in full sun.

1991 AAS Flower Winner. Red Plume plants are dwarf and compact, forming a dense mound covered with double brick red blooms. The 1 1/2 to 2 inch blooms are held on strong stems just above the foliage. The mature plant height is 12 to 14 inches, perfect for background plantings adding height to garden beds.

2003 AAS Bedding Plant Winner. The first consistent mahogany red and yellow bicolor gaillardia flower. The globe-shaped blooms are primarily double and can cover the plant throughout the growing season. Exhibiting heat and drought tolerance, Sundance Bicolor is carefree in the garden. The spreading plants need 15 to 16 inches of garden space, preferably in full sun. This annual needs moderately fertile soil and moisture to flower abundantly during the summer.
