We are proud to offer the following begonia varieties in the convenient, easy to see and space in the soil, pelleted form. The bright coating on each seed builds the seed size up, ensuring easier handling.
Begonias are one of the flower lovers favorite plants, the are almost carefree, flower for long periods and come in a dazzling array of colors. But in the past, the most popular varieties have only been available in plant form, as the tiny seeds were difficult to handle, and very expensive.
But no longer! We now stock the varieties below, and in pelleted form. The pelleted coating allows you to easily handle and place the seeds and ensures a high germination rate.
We protect our pelleted seeds during shipping by packaging them in polystyrene vials, which can be saved and re-used for saving other seed types. The pelletizing and special packaging does raise the cost of the seeds, but still allows you to raise your own wonderful varieties for a fraction of buying plants, plus many of the varieties we offer are almost impossible to find in gardening stores.

Begonia Tuberous and Fibrous ( Pelleted Seeds ) There are two types of begonias: tuberous and fibrous. Fibrous are grown from seeds, do not form tubers and are annuals in colder regions. They are only propagated from seeds. Tuberous are also grown from seeds but form a tuber, which can be carried over from year to year, and these can be propagated. We do not differentiate between the two types in our seed listings, we simply offer them as an annual flower seed.

Begonias are popular for their beautiful flowers which come in a variety of colors and forms. Red, orange, yellow, white, salmon and pink blooms may be single or double; they may be plain, ruffled or toothed; their petals may have margins, crests or blotches of contrasting color. Begonias bloom throughout the summer, thriving in shady spots where few other plants with long bloom periods and showy flowers can grow. They are often used as container plants on patios and porches, in hanging baskets, and as bedding plants.

Begonias species are native to tropical South America and southern Africa. Most varieties available in garden centers or though catalogs are hybrids with complex parentage, but all share the same cultural requirements.

Choose a site for begonias that is somewhat protected from wind, where the soil is well-drained, and plants will be shaded during most of the day. Early morning and late afternoon sun will not harm them; they need good indirect or dappled light at other times.

Although begonias must be grown in well-drained soil, they are not drought tolerant, so it's important to water them when rainfall has been inadequate. If they're growing in the shade of trees or in containers under a roof, you must pay even more attention to keeping the soil properly moist. Allow the soil in containers to become slightly dry before watering. Moss-lined wire hanging baskets work particularly well to provide adequate drainage. Begonias are fairly heavy "feeders", so fertilize with a dilute balanced fertilizer throughout the growing season for best bloom and growth.
